2022-2023 Program Goal
Our goal for the FOUTH year of Blessings in a Backpack program in the Santa Maria Valley is to feed as many children as possible for the entire school year.
As little as $3.42 can feed one child 6-8 meals over the weekend or $130.00 can feed a child for the entire school year.

2021-2022 Impact Report

When school dismisses on Friday, more than 11,000 children in the Santa Maria Valley will leave their classroom,
uncertain whether they will have enough food to eat that weekend. During the school week, most of these children
depend on the federal free and reduced meal program their school offers. WHICH IS AMAZING! Sometimes, the
meals at school are the only ones they get. When the school closes its doors on Friday afternoon, many of these children go home to empty cupboards and hunger pangs for 65 hours until they return to school on Monday morning. Who will feed them this weekend? We will!
Last year we were able to support 216 children every weekend during the school year. With each food pack consisting of 6-8 nutritious age-appropriate food items, that’s 1512 meals provided weekly for a total of 48,384 meals over the 2021-2022 school year. We couldn't do this without the support of our volunteers, donors, and schools.
Sincerely,
Nancy Crawford, SMV Program Founder/Coordinator
