2022-2023 Impact Report
When school dismisses on Friday, over 11,000 children in the Santa Maria Valley are unsure if they will have enough food for the weekend. These children rely on the breakfast and lunch provided by the school during the week, and for some, it's their only source of meals. When the school closes on Friday afternoon, many of these children go home to empty cupboards and endure hunger for 65 hours until they return to school on Monday morning. Blessings in a Backpack of the Santa Maria Valley battles childhood hunger one food pack at a time.
Thanks to the support of local individuals, businesses, and organizations, we have been able to continuously provide food for the children in our community. During the 2022-2023 school year, we expanded the program by 10%, helping 240 children every weekend. Each food pack contains 7 nutritious and age-appropriate food items, which amounts to a total of 1,680 meals per week and 58,800 meals over the entire school year.
